"87 Heads" is an anthology photobook of iconic hairstyles conceptualized by hair stylists Hiro+Mari and photographer Maru Teppei. This book is a love letter to the East Williamsburg neighborhood where their salon, 87 Brooklyn, is located on Graham Avenue. The photos convey the warm and friendly community surrounding the salon.The project began as a way to deepen interactions with people living and working on Graham Avenue. However, the project was temporarily put on hold due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in New York City and the subsequent lockdown order. For about three and a half months, the hair salon was closed, and they were unable to work.Nevertheless, despite the pandemic, they remained in Brooklyn, never giving up on their creativity and passion for hair art. After more than six months since the lockdown began, they resumed the 87 project and invited ordinary people to participate in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic. Although it was challenging to propose photoshoots to strangers on the streets, they managed to build deep connections with people through hair art."87 Heads" is a unique art book that showcases beautiful and innovative hairstyles while conveying the charm and solidarity of the Brooklyn community.

「87 Heads」とは、ヘアスタイリストのHiro+Mariと写真家 Maru Teppeiによる、象徴的なヘアスタイルのアンソロジーである。この書籍は、彼らが設立したサロン87ブルックリンがあるイースト・ウィリアムズバーグ地区へのラブレターとして、交流を深めることを目的として始まった。しかし、NY市での新型コロナウイルスの発生とそれに続くロックダウン要請により、プロジェクトは一時中断を余儀なくされた。約3か月半にわたり、ヘアサロンは閉鎖され、彼らは仕事をすることができなかった。それでも、パンデミック中にも関わらず、彼らはブルックリンに残り、クリエイションを諦めず、ヘアアートの創作に情熱を注いだ。ロックダウンから半年以上が経過した後、プロジェクトを再開し、前代未聞のパンデミック中に、道端で人々に写真撮影を提案することは非常に困難な状況であったが、プロジェクトへの参加を呼びかけ続け、人々とヘアアートを通じて深い交流を築いた。「87 Heads」は、美しく斬新なヘアスタイルと、ブルックリンのコミュニティの魅力的な一面を伝える、ユニークなアート作品集である。
